Notes

It naturally occurs in specialized environments common to Eastern Ontario, such as alvars (rare limestone plain ecosystems), rocky shorelines, and dry prairies. After the flowers fade, the seed heads persist through the winter, providing important forage for songbirds, especially American Goldfinches.
